Replace a Missing Tooth With a Dental Implant

Posted .

Have you lost a permanent tooth? Losing a tooth can render simple things like chewing and speaking difficult. In addition, a lost tooth mars the beauty of the smile. So, what can be done about a lost tooth? A dental implant can restore the beauty and functionality of your smile.

A dental implant is made up of three parts: a titanium implant post, an abutment, and a dental restoration. The titanium implant post replaces the root of the tooth and is designed to fuse with the jawbone. The dental restoration, like a dental crown or dental bridge, replaces the visible portion of the tooth. The abutment connects the implant post with the dental restoration. Your future dental implant can last for many years, or even a lifetime.

To place a dental implant, Dr. Daniel Cannon will first surgically place the implant into the jawbone. While your jawbone is healing, the implant post will fuse with the jawbone. This process can take a few months. The abutment will then be attached to the implant post. Your regular dentist will then take impressions of the gap and the surrounding teeth, which will be used to create your dental restoration. When your restoration is complete, it will be attached to the dental abutment.
